Let’s reclaim the word “Millennial”
Us Millennials get so much shade from both older and younger generations these days, it's like we're torn between various belief structures.
One on hand we have the older generations telling us the key to happiness is to get a good job, be grateful for it even if it makes you miserable, and work for someone else your whole life until you can retire and THEN be happy.
Older generations judge us saying we're spoiled, entitled, and lazy because we want more earlier in life.
Then on the other hand we have the younger generations taking a stance for wanting to better the world, wanting to be part of something bigger, caring for the earth, equity, and humanity more than we've ever seen.
Younger generations judge us saying we're the dinosaurs with outdated styles and beliefs.
All of these external judgments on us millennials had me avoiding the word for a long time. It had me wanting to distance myself from my age, especially while in the workforce.
I constantly felt the need to prove myself, to go above and beyond, and still think I was never old enough to be worthy of receiving the things that I wanted.
Well, I'm excited to share that I'm ready to reclaim the word Millennial. Let's lean into who we are and what we want. Let's not let judgments or fears hold us back from going after what we want.
believe all of these external judgments are what is driving us millennials to wake up earlier and have a quarter-life crisis instead of a midlife crisis.
We don't want to wait until we're 50 to look back at our life and wish we had done more.
We're waking up in our mid to late 20's and 30's knowing we want more.
We're having those scary conversations about 'what am I even passionate about anymore?' and spending time to invest in ourselves and get to know ourselves earlier than any other previous generation.
This is what drives me to help as many millennials as possible - I don't want our generation waking up later in life regretting anything.
I want us all to go all in on whatever it is that lights us up - whether that means switching careers, going back to school, starting a podcast, or writing a book.
That's why I'm now calling myself a Millennial Coach. Focusing in on my ideal clients who are going through their quarter-life crisis, just like I was a few years ago.
